Why We Ship Bumpers Folded

Actual customer photos. Scroll down for customer reviews and more photos.

We realize that it may come as a shock to know that painted bumpers are shipped folded. The main driver is due to a substantial increase shipping costs; it simply costs a lot more to ship these items unfolded through the typical door to door deliveries such as FedEx or UPS. While bumpers are light in weight, sending them unfolded takes up a lot of space in delivery trucks. An average box for an unfolded bumper measures around 96x24x20 inches. Shipping companies then calculate a dimensional weight (DIM Weight) for the item and charge based on the DIM Weight. As of the writing of this article, if you were to ship something of this size, it would cost over $2,000, from our shop to a door in New York.

Since the shipping cost of unfolded bumpers is an obstacle for many, we looked at the bumper itself. The aftermarket bumpers that we sell are made of thermoplastic material that make them remoldable, reshapable and resistant to impact. Since the properties of the bumper material is able to withstand shipping while folded, we found that this was the best solution to get affordable bumpers that are painted to each customer's car color delivered straight to their home. Simply unbox the item and give it some time to return to its original shape.

What about the paint cracking due to folding? Paint takes up to 2 months to fully cure. Painted bumpers are shipped before paint cures, making the paint still pliable to adjust when the bumper returns to the original shape.

Paint N Ship also offers shipping for unfolded bumpers through a network of freight carriers. The cost is less than parcel companies mentioned above; however, the additional fees may still be too high for some customers. The delivery time is also longer. It's all about what our customers are want but we have been shipping folded bumpers with great success over the years. Here are some of the reviews from satisfied customers.

Customer from TN

"As per your instruction sheet in the shipping box, I am including a couple of photos of the installed bumper. It turned out really nice on my 2013 Subaru Outback.

It took approx. 2 hours to remove the old bumper and install the new one and that included replacing a damaged fender-well mudguard on the driver's side.

Once I removed the bumper from the box and let it sit in the sun for a couple of hours, it was perfectly relaxed to its original shape.

Thanks for the great job and a great product!"
